A look back at my first quilt....

My very busy week and weekend is coming to an end. I am taking a Rotary Cutting Class tomorrow at It's A Stitch in Humble. This got me thinking about my first quilt. I belong to a family of quilters but I actually did not began sewing until July of 2010. As a child I did cross stitch with my Grandmother and I watched her quilt. I have had my mother's sewing machine since she died when I was young and this summer I finally decided to pull it out and learn to use it.
I started my first quilt in early August and finished it in late September. It was a gift for my mother-in-law's birthday. I chose all the fabrics myself at Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's and took a beginning quilting class while visiting my friends in Belton, Texas. Cherish at Temple Sew and Quilt (the town next to Belton) taught me so much in the week I was there. She is a patient teacher and a great quilter. My friend Sandy, who I was visiting, also taught me a lot about quilting. These two ladies got me going on my first quilt. I went home with it almost done all I had to finish was the actual quilting and binding. Sandy taught me how to stitch in the ditch so that is the quilting I did on this quilt. Once the quilting was done I visited my Aunt and cousin and they taught me how to do the binding.
It's amazing how much I have learned since August. I've found my favorite fabrics - Moda, Riley Blake, Michael Miller, and a few others. I have finished 2 medium sized quilts, 2 table runners, baby booties, baby gifts and other small projects. I am currently working on a baby quilt - Funky Monkeys and a Bed runner for a wedding gift.

  2. That is amazing!!! It looks as though you've been doing this forever!!! Love it. I too sew on my Mom's old machine....it really is so outdated and old but I love the fact that she used to use it and can remember all the things she made on it as I sit there and sew. Have a wonderful day!!
